Many fish need free-flowing water in order to reproduce. But in rivers and streams, they are often obstructed by hydroelectric dams and other obstacles that we humans have built. Martin Falklind explores the possibilities of helping the fish to roam freely. We also meet Sweden's first inhabitants after the ice age, the char, and 12-year-old Edvin, who does everything he can to help fish.

Martin Falklind’s film "Kingdom of Fish - The Power of Water", which received the Special Prize of the Ministry of Climate, tells the story of Swedish rivers and the efforts of conservationists to restore migration routes for salmon and other fish. The film shows how local communities, hydropower producers, fishermen and environmentalists work together to find solutions that can meet the needs of all parties involved.
Estonia has also done a great deal to improve the condition of our rivers and fish populations, and we therefore greatly appreciate the efforts made by other countries and by all those involved in this work. Such efforts are not always understood by everyone, which is why it is so important to talk about them and raise awareness. Film is undoubtedly one of the most powerful ways to do this.
