Eat More Trees brings together pioneers from around the world, following their quest for a new form of agriculture. Their dream? To fill supermarkets with healthy and diverse products from agroforestry. Is this a utopian vision, or will they succeed in becoming a catalyst for lasting change? After all, reviving agriculture can save entire villages from neglect. The film intertwines the personal stories of regenerative farmers Alfonso & Yanniek, and landscape designer Louis with the discovery of hope giving stories from the Amazon to the USA. The farmers and experts address universal themes of regeneration, environment, sustainability, and humanity's connection to the earth. We witness daily struggles, triumphs and setbacks, and the growing impact of their work on their communities. Their paths cross when they decide to collaborate and share their knowledge.

Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation Special Prize

This year, the Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation is presenting the Development Cooperation Thematic Award “Bird” at MAFF for the first time. The bird symbolises a perspective that crosses borders and recognises how deeply interconnected our world is. The award recognises a film that compellingly explores issues central to development cooperation and helps us understand how local challenges are connected to wider global processes. These include climate change, poverty, food security, environmental crises and social inequality. The 2026 Development Cooperation Thematic Award goes to "Eat More Trees", directed by Arne Focketyn. The jury highlighted the film’s timely exploration of climate change, deforestation and the effects of intensive agriculture on the environment and local communities. An important factor in the decision was the film’s focus on possible solutions and ways to take action. Global challenges are often discussed in ways that, without offering a path forward, can deepen anxiety about the future. "Eat More Trees", however, offers hope alongside its account of the problems, showing how practical, community-led solutions can create meaningful change.
