Karoliine-Lisette Kõiv, also known as Tidi, is a distinctive Estonian musician who seamlessly blends the soundscapes of folk and jazz. She has gained experience in a wide variety of styles, performing Estonian and Nordic traditional music, exploring the paths of other European cultures’ folk traditions, and venturing all the way to well-known jazz standards.
After earning a degree in traditional music from the Heino Eller Music School and studying jazz violin at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy, Tidi has broadened her knowledge of different musical cultures by taking part in numerous music events and projects (EthnoWorld, Fiddlers’ On The Move, Folk Marathon, etc.) around the world.
Since Tidi is constantly seeking new ways to express her creativity, music and performing have become her very essence. Already a multi-instrumentalist from a young age, beginning with violin and voice, she later added guitar, ukulele, piano, and percussion to shape her own unique musical identity.
Her original compositions combine the storytelling qualities of singer-songwriter traditions with folk rhythms and jazz-like harmonies. Tidi’s music reflects her belief that the soul of every tune or song lies in the emotion and unspoken message contained in it.
Her songs and arrangements can be heard with her own ensemble Tidi & bande, in the folk duo Compass, the world music trio SaJaKa, and the experimental music collective The Weighted Keys.
