The Estonian Ornithological Society has chosen the cormorant as the Bird of the Year 2025. This archaic-looking bird is an excellent swimmer and skilled fisher, living and nesting in colonies primarily along coastal areas. The cormorant has a distinct and important role in the ecosystem, which deserves further study and explanation. Kunter Tätte, the society’s bird conservation specialist, will speak about the life of the cormorant and its role in nature. The lecture will last approximately one hour.
At Penijõe Manor, a traveling exhibition introducing the cormorant will also be open until October 12.
