Klaas Huwel is a passionate hobby wildlife photographer from Belgium. After visiting Estonia every year for a decade, he finally decided to follow his heart and move there in the summer of 2024.
“The beautiful forests and bogs, the abundance of wildlife, the feeling of space, and the low population density are the things I appreciate most about Estonia,” Klaas says.
Over the years, Klaas has had the privilege of encountering and photographing a wide variety of animals in Estonia — from elusive predators to tiny songbirds — each with its own unique story. In his talk, he will share some of his most memorable wildlife encounters, revealing the moments behind the photographs as well as the challenges and surprises that come with working in the field.
Klaas will also give insight into his photography style, which combines patience, natural light, and a deep respect for the animals’ space and behavior.
“Every photograph is a mix of preparation, the right gear, and a little bit of luck,” Klaas explains. “But most of all, it’s about being present in the moment.”
Join Klaas for a visual journey through Estonia’s wild landscapes, told through stories, images, and the passion that brought him here.
